Ranking Member Ruppersberger Welcomes Three New Democratic Members to the House Intelligence Committee

Representatives Pastor, Himes and Sewell Join HPSCI

Congressman C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger (D-MD), Ranking Member of the House Intelligence Committee, today welcomed three new Members to the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI).  Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi appointed Congressman Ed Pastor of Arizona, Congressman Jim Himes of Connecticut and Congresswoman Terri Sewell of Alabama.  The House Intelligence Committee provides oversight and budget authorization for the 17 agencies of the Intelligence Community, including the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the Central Intelligence Agency, the National Security Agency, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Defense Intelligence Agency and other civilian and military elements of the Intelligence Community.

“Leader Nancy Pelosi chose hard-working and dedicated Members who I know will be incredible additions to the House Intelligence Committee.  The Intelligence Committee has the responsibility to ensure our dedicated intelligence professionals have the resources, capabilities and authorities they need to keep our country safe.

Congressman Ed Pastor brings decades of Congressional and budget expertise to the House Intelligence Committee.  Clearly his knowledge and understanding of complex budget issues as a Member of the Appropriations Committee makes the Arizona native a great addition to HPSCI.

As a Rhodes Scholar who lived abroad and has international business experience, Congressman Jim Himes has a valuable background which will serve the Intelligence Committee and our country well.  The representative from Connecticut knows we must ensure the safety of our citizens, continue to make critical investments in our national security and strengthen our partnerships abroad.

Congresswoman Terri Sewell is an energetic, smart, hard-working member with a passion to do what is right for her constituents and for her country.  She hails from Alabama, one of the homes of the space industry, and a big priority for the Intelligence Committee.

I hope Ed, Jim, and Terri will find the Committee a rewarding place to serve and I look forward to their contributions.”
