Ruppersberger Statement on Department of State’s Travel Warning
Washington, DC,
September 6, 2013
August 2, 2013 Contact: Allison Getty Congressman C.A. “Dutch” Ruppersberger (D-MD), Ranking Member on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, released the following statement regarding the State Department’s travel warning and embassy closings. “The State Department has issued a travel warning through the end of August. Any time there is a threat, we need to take the appropriate precautions to protect our country and its citizens. As a Member of the Intelligence Committee, I learn about threats to our country and how the U.S. Intelligence Community disrupts them before they occur. We are working closely with our allies to fight the threat of terrorism. We regularly share information with each other in order to thwart terrorist plots, identify potential terrorists, and strengthen our defenses. Members of the Intelligence Community serve in dangerous places and put themselves at risk daily. We must be cautious and vigilant. I trust the Department of State has taken these pro-active steps including closing embassies to ensure the safety of Americans and our partners and allies.” ###### |
