Himes Statement on President Biden’s Remarks Regarding Aerial Phenomena

Washington, DC — Today, the Ranking Member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, Jim Himes (CT-04), issued the following statement in response to President Biden’s remarks on the increase in unidentified aerial phenomena (UAPs) in American airspace.

“In the wake of the violation of American sovereignty by China’s High Altitude Balloon, I agree with President Biden that we must focus additional attention on tracking and identifying objects in our airspace. As we continue to learn more about the three additional objects shot down, and with initial indications suggesting they were not linked to a foreign adversary, it is critical we also calibrate our efforts to respond to future detections. I look forward to hearing further from the Administration and the Intelligence Community on how best to monitor and protect our airspace while avoiding  unnecessary expense and alarm.”
