Ruppersberger Applauds NSA on Naming its First Civil Liberties and Privacy Officer

Congressman C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger (D-MD), Ranking Member on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, released the following statement after the National Security Agency named its first Civil Liberties and Privacy Officer.

“I know many people have expressed concerns about NSA’s use of technology to identify terrorists and threats to our country. As a former prosecutor, I understand these concerns and want the public to have as much information as possible about our country’s national security programs. Today, NSA named former Department of Homeland Security official, Becky Richards, as its first Civil Liberties and Privacy Officer. I believe this role is an important step in our ongoing efforts to protect privacy and improve transparency at NSA.”
