Ranking Member Ruppersberger Statement on the Capture of Ahmed Abu Khatallah
Washington, DC,
June 17, 2014
For Immediate Release Contact: Allison Getty Congressman C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger (D-MD), Ranking Member on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, released the following statement following the capture of Ahmed Abu Khatallah. “I applaud the successful capture of Ahmed Abu Khatallah, one of the terrorists allegedly responsible for the 2012 attacks in Benghazi, which claimed the lives of four brave Americans: Ambassador Chris Stevens, Sean Smith, Tyrone Woods, and Glen Doherty. This is another example of the American commitment to justice for those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for this nation. The U.S. is sending the message to terrorists everywhere that if they harm Americans, we will find them and bring them to justice. The U.S. will not rest until all those behind the attacks are brought to justice. The Administration will try Khatallah in the U.S. civilian criminal justice system, which has a proven track record for putting terrorists behind bars. Since the Sept. 11 attacks, federal prosecutors have convicted hundreds of terrorists captured overseas, according to the Justice Department. I applaud the President for relentlessly pursuing this mission, and I applaud the bravery and professionalism of all those who carried it out successfully and with no loss of civilian life.” ### To unsubscribe/ subscribe to Democratic Committee email updates, click here to update your preferences. |
