Ranking Member Ruppersberger Statement on Sanctions Against Russia
Washington, DC,
July 29, 2014
For Immediate Release Contact: Allison Getty Congressman C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger (D-MD), Ranking Member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, released the following statement after President Obama’s announcement of the U.S. and EU’s new sanctions against Russia. “I applaud the President and the EU for implementing tough new sanctions against Russia to send the message that its aggressive and irresponsible actions will not be tolerated by the international community. Not only has Russia supported the rebels who shot down flight MH17, but it has violated the Intermediate Nuclear Forces Treaty, and invaded the Crimea region of Ukraine, a sovereign country. These sanctions should weaken Russia’s already fragile economy and send President Putin the message that for Russia to be part of the international community, it must abide by the rules or suffer the consequences. ” ### |
