Schiff Statement on Russian Expulsion of U.S. Diplomatic Staff and Seizure of U.S. Property
Washington,
July 28, 2017
Washington, DC – Today, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), the Ranking Member of the House Intelligence Committee, released the following statement: "The Kremlin's expulsion of U.S. diplomatic staff and seizure of two U.S. properties is a predictable response to the sanctions legislation which Congress just passed with overwhelming majorities in the House and Senate, and which now awaits the President's signature. It must be a bitter pill for Putin to swallow that as a result of his brazen interference in favor of President Trump, the Congress has imposed additional sanctions on Russia and placed significant constraints on the President's authority to waive existing sanctions. I urge the President to sign the sanctions legislation quickly; if he does otherwise, the Congress will override any veto, sending a strong message to Moscow that we will not tolerate Russian efforts to interfere in our elections or those of our allies, or the continuing destabilization of its neighbors."
