Los Angeles, CA – Today, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), the Ranking Member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, released the following statement:

“Today’s guilty plea by a top Trump campaign operative, Rick Gates, adds another cooperating witness to Special Counsel Mueller’s probe and marks the third associate of the President to enter a guilty plea and agree to cooperate. According to the court filing, Gates was integral to the massive fraud perpetrated by his former business partner, Paul Manafort, and the two worked to launder tens of millions in ill-gotten gains from pro-Russian interests in Ukraine beginning several years ago and continuing throughout the campaign. 

“Perhaps more significantly, Gates was also in a position to observe the inner workings of the campaign at its most senior level and, as the Special Counsel looks into potential coordination between the Trump campaign and the Russian government, Gates could prove a key source of information on these and other issues. At the appropriate time, it will be important for the House Intelligence Committee to hear directly from Mr. Gates, and other cooperating witnesses, as part of our ongoing investigation into the Russian active measures campaign during the 2016 election.”
