Chairman Schiff Statement on New Democratic Members Named to House Intelligence Committee

Washington, DC — Today, Chairman Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) released the following statement after Speaker Pelosi named new Members to the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence:

“I welcome the new and returning Members to the House Intelligence Committee, and look forward to working with them to protect the country and oversee our agencies. The threats that the United States faces on a daily basis are daunting and multi-faceted, but the men and women of the Intelligence Community continue to work to protect us every day. Our responsibility in Congress, through the Intelligence Committee, is to provide the guidance, authorization and rigorous oversight over the Intelligence Community that enables our agencies to strengthen our national security and protect our privacy and civil liberties.

“I look forward to working with our Members on a bipartisan basis to restore regular order and comity to the Committee.”

The Speaker named Reps. Val Demings, Raja Krishnamoorthi, Sean Patrick Maloney, and Peter Welch to the Committee this morning. The new Members join Reps. Jim Himes, Terri Sewell, André Carson, Jackie Speier, Mike Quigley, Eric Swalwell, Joaquin Castro and Denny Heck.
